Shredding

All wood waste received and identified for recycling, regardless of its final destination has to be broken down to smaller particles. To achieve this a hammermill shredder is employed.

The mill has a high speed rotating rotor with 36 swinging hammers which breaks up the wood and forces it through a 50mm gate. This has the effect of reducing the wood to an average particle size of 35mm.

Screening

A shaking deck screen removes the majority of sub 5mm and plus 40mm materials from the final product. The fine material is used for other products such as animal bedding and the oversize material is returned for further shredding.

Metals Extraction

Ferrous - Two overband magnets and a magnetic head pulley on the shredder remove non ferrous contaminants such as nails and hinges.

Non ferrous - An eddy current separator removes all non-ferrous contamination such as aluminium, brass and copper.
